9 days in search of something.

Some have said it better than I.

“If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with.”

“Life is painful and messed up. It gets complicated at the worst of times, and sometimes you have no idea where to go or what to do. Lots of times people just let themselves get lost, dropping into a wide open, huge abyss. But that's why we have to keep trying. We have to push through all that hurts us, work past all our memories that are haunting us. Sometimes the things that hurt us are the things that make us strongest. A life without experience, in my opinion, is no life at all. And that's why I tell everyone that, even when it hurts, never stop yourself from living.” 

“It's a funny thing about life, once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack.”



Yeah...all of that.

I was never really in search of myself. I think what I realized is I'm a social being. I like people and in the end, if by meeting someone and talking to them, they like themselves a little more, then I guess it did Good...err...uhh. Well!

So there is no great epiphany other than realizing something I always knew. I like myself. Who I was and who I have become. If you want to be somebody else, change your mind.

Dear Penthouse: I Never Thought This Would Happen to Me but today.....

Wednesday, September 13 Uber and I are not talking today. It sent me on a 20-mile incorrect navigation which while it took me past some amazing, double-digit million-dollar homes, it burnt fuel and wasted time. But as a dedicated driver, I called the pickup, explained the problem and told her I would be there,just 20 minutes late. She was fine. The correct address was in equally spectacular homes in Desert Mountain, a sprawling conclave of five golf courses, captains of industry, widget multi-millionaires and also my friend Mike Silverman. The guard at the gate was waiting for me and upon entering, it was another five miles to the house. She said she would be outside in the driveway. Mourning Breakfast

Life has its stressful trigger points. Birth, death, new job, lost job, illness, clean bill of health, financial drawbacks, financial windfalls, great sex, birthdays, anniversaries, shiva calls and one we live through but don't always deal with trauma: Moving. This morning at breakfast, as I headed over to the new house, with some personal items, prior to the BIG PACK tomorrow and the BIG MOVE on Friday, the excitement was tinged with mourning. It is a happy occasion. Don't get me wrong. New home, new beginnings. But 19 years is a long time in any one place. Other than my childhood home, this is the longest stretch I've lived anywhere. 1974-1982, NYC. 1982-1987, Tenafly, NJ. 1987-1992, Back to NYC. 1992-1999, Montville, NJ. 1999-2018...that's the big one; Scottsdale, AZ.
