Ticket to Ride---82 in a 65.
I left Carmel the morning of the 16th. I needed coffee and Carmel being...Carmel..I could not get my Starbucks fix. I found a local roastery down the street and chatted with a group of local before I went in. Not tourists..real locals. Told them about my trip to find purpose. One guy laughed and said: 'Let me know how that works out for you!"
I was going on the road and I said: let me try that egg on an English Muffin. 'do you want sausage?' Sure! Well, it came with melted cheese and though I'm trying to get back to my birth weight, I thought I NEVER eat this stuff. I got in the car and savored every bite.
Since I stayed in Carmel, not Monterrey, I was in no rush and took the 10 minute detour. part of me thinks I should have stayed there but there'll be another chance. The Cannery Row area, the beach..Definitely a return trip.
I decided that to get to Yosemite, I'd stay local.
(Flashback: I was on a route i don;'t remember and passed a distribution center for Driscoll Berries. I buy these all the time at Sprouts!!!!! I stopped and it was all business but a guy gave me a handful of fresh berries after I told him I was a huge fan..loved it!)
So, I took local roads to Yosemite as I noted. Outside of Merced, I was cruising on a country road at 82. Who knew the speed limit was 65? Well, a CHiP cop reminded me. He didn't look like Ponch but he took some time when he pulled me over. Very polite but gave me a ticket. But also told me it was an infraction, not a felony or even a big misdemeanor.
As I headed towards Yosemite, I took the roads less travelled.
I can't even begin to explain this route. Small towns, farms...America's heartland, except it is the Central Coast.
As I drove to find Route 41 to Yosemite, I was ambivalent. I LIKE nature..But what I encountered was beyond beauty. The winding roads up to Yosemite. Fog. I finally reached Taniya Lodge.
It was only 10:30 in the morning. I had an entire day to explore.
Coming up...Touching the earth. (yeah..sounds cosmic but about solace, beauty and shutting out sound and the outside world)
